Place-based Research Convening #1: SIITR Forum reflections and a map of place-based research
November 2 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

In September, more than 50 people met in Stanthorpe for Day 3 of the Place-Based Research Forum at Social Impact in the Regions 2026. They came from community organisations, place-based initiatives, philanthropy, government, universities and consultancies across regional Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Together we looked at what place-based research means, how it is done, and what gets in the way.
Join us for our first post-conference convening to share what came out of the forum and open the conversation to a wider group.
In this session we will:
- Share and reflect on themes and reflections from the SIITR Forum;
- Review a map of place-based research activities in Australia; and
- Plan future conversations.
Who it is for
This session is for you if you:
- Participate in place-based research in your community;
- Conduct research related to place-based development at a university, consultancy, think tank, government agency or community organisation;
- Fund or commission place-based research; or
- Apply research to make decisions about programs, policy or investment.
You don’t need to know exactly what “place-based” means to join. Working out what it means is part of the conversation.
